About Us
Here at Rickety Bridge Soap Emporium, everything we make is rooted in a slower, more intentional way of living. What began as my personal journey to bring cleaner, more sustainable products into my home has grown into a family-run effort built on care, creativity, and connection to the land.
Nestled in the small township of Clarno, Wisconsin, I started soapmaking as part of a dream to live more closely with nature—learning old skills like foraging, plant medicine, and gardening while creating a home that sustains both our family and the land around us. Over the years, I’ve discovered the beauty of working with what’s close at hand. By partnering with a local butcher, I rescue fats that would otherwise be discarded and render them myself into wholesome, nourishing tallow and lard. These become the heart of our cold process soaps—rich, long-lasting bars that clean gently while helping us reduce waste.
While some oils still travel far to reach me, I’ve learned to use them sparingly, blending them with local ingredients and botanicals harvested from my own yard. This not only lowers our footprint but makes every batch of soap uniquely tied to the season and place it was created.
Sustainability shapes every part of our work. From reusing and recycling packaging to choosing plastic-free options whenever possible, we do our best to make choices that tread lightly on the earth. At home, I continue working toward creating a more native and wildlife-friendly space, planting and restoring habitat whenever I can. Each bar of soap you bring into your home helps support this slower, more mindful way of living.
Rickety Bridge is more than just me—it’s now a family effort. My fiancé Dan lends his hands at markets, while my daughter Evey, at just 10 years old, has begun making her own soap creations. Together, we’re learning, growing, and finding joy in this slower way of life.
When I step outside and see bees napping on wildflowers or gather blossoms for soap, salves, and tea, I’m reminded of why I started: to create something wholesome, intentional, and lasting. Every bar of soap we make carries that same spirit—a little piece of this land, this family, and this journey.
